Today, I read a great article by Ray DePena, titled “65 Reasons For Not Moving To The Cloud” which was written slightly ‘tongue in cheek’ but trust me, you should read this article for understanding why we should not go to Cloud. I am not against the Cloud, but we should consider these points before we take our decision in favor of Cloud. Some of the lighthearted reasons included:

• Your career would be negatively impacted without a large IT budget and staff.
• IT governance is your middle name.
• Your accountants would be lost without equipment to depreciate.
• You’re less than 3-5 years away from retirement and were hoping to coast from here on out.

Some serious reasons listed include:

• Your security needs are greater than the Pentagon’s.
• You need to be FISMA compliant, and Google Apps is not FISMA compliant – oh wait…
• You want to easily switch from one Cloud provider to another, just like you easily switch from HP to IBM servers.
• Your internal infrastructure is much more reliable than that of the leading Cloud Service Providers.
